Latest accolade reinforces Podimetrics’ proven ability to prevent amputations from complex diabetes by coupling home-based monitoring platform with trusted patient education

SOMERVILLE, Mass. — April 30 , 2024 – Podimetrics, creator of the SmartMat™ and integrated clinical and patient support services that can help save the limbs and lives of people living with complex diabetes, has been named to the top 5 in the medical device category on Fast Company’s prestigious list of the World’s Most Innovative Companies (MIC) for 2024. Over the last year, Podimetrics has increased the number of patients utilizing its SmartMat by more than 150 percent, and increased health plan and at-risk provider adoption of its platform by more than 100 percent. The company has also nearly doubled its workforce to support these new, at-risk patients and the health plan and provider customers who serve them.

This year’s list from Fast Company shines a spotlight on businesses, like Podimetrics, that are shaping industry and culture through their innovations. According to FastCompany, these organizations are setting new standards and achieving remarkable milestones in all sectors of the economy.

“The number of people diagnosed with diabetes is on the rise nationwide, as are the number of amputations resulting from poorly managed diabetes,” said Jon Bloom, MD, co-founder and CEO of Podimetrics. “Up to 85 percent of high-cost diabetes-related lower limb amputations are preventable if people are provided with three core areas of support: personalized care that addresses systemic challenges – such as the high cost of diabetes drugs and access to healthy foods, easy to use monitoring technology, and real-time clinical support.”

Today, every 4 minutes in the U.S. a limb is amputated due to diabetes. Podimetrics is committed to reversing this dire trend, while also supporting the highest risk populations facing these serious challenges as amputations are substantially more prevalent among people of color. Through partnerships with health plans and at-risk providers, such as the Veterans Health Administration, Podimetrics specifically helps prevent amputations for hundreds of thousands diverse patients in the U.S.
Building on its latest award recognition from Fast Company, Podimetrics has received accolades for its proven ability to prevent high-cost diabetic amputations. Last year, Podimetrics moved up to 140 on the Deloitte Technology Fast 500 award list, and earned a spot on the prestigious Inc. 5000 list for the second year – ranking 20th in Boston and 20th in Massachusetts.

“Our list of the Most Innovative Companies is both a comprehensive look at the innovation
economy and a snapshot of the business trends that defined the year,” said Brendan Vaughan, editor-in-chief at Fast Company. “We saw extraordinary innovation across the board in 2023,
but we also saw a handful of clear patterns: the growing footprint and impact of AI, the
triumphant return of live events, and great leaps forward in climate tech. We face daunting
challenges on many fronts, but the solutions we celebrate in MIC give me plenty of hope about
the future.”
